In June 2007, we received planning permission from Sedgefield Borough Council to build a new wind farm in Butterwick Moor. The Butterwick Moor location was chosen following a site search which looked for the most appropriate sites for wind farms in the area. It’s located next door to the Walkway wind farm. By effectively 'extending' Walkway to include the Butterwick Moor wind farm, this has kept with our original vision for wind energy development and minimised landscape and visual effects.

Now operational, the 20 MW site has the capacity to supply over 10,000 homes.* As well as this, the wind farm provides a community fund that has already contributed £50,000 to projects that benefit the local community. More information about the community benefit fund is available on the County Durham Community Foundation website.

*Based on an annual average domestic household consumption of 4,115 kWH.
