Capacity Market auctions

RWE has successfully prequalified 6.7 GW of de-rated capacity to participate in the UK’s next three Capacity Market auctions being held in 2020.

Following the recent decision of the European Commission that the GB Capacity Market is compatible with the EU State aid rules, the next stage in the Capacity Market auction process can continue.

We are pleased to share the recent confirmation from National Grid that RWE has successfully prequalified 6.7 GW of de-rated capacity to participate in the UK’s next three Capacity Market auctions being held in 2020.

The timetable for auctions taking place next year is slightly different from usual, with three auctions held within three months of each other:

30-31 January

‘T-3’ CM auction will take place, for delivery 2022/23

6-7 February

‘T-1’ CM  auction will take place for delivery in 2020/21

5-6 March

‘T-4’ CM auction will take place for delivery 2023/24. This is the “normal” auction that would have been held, with delivery four years ahead

Prequalification is a significant milestone in the capacity market process, and we look forward to participating in the auctions early next year.
