Tom Glover, RWE UK Country Chair and designated CCO of RWE Renewables, recently spoke to Aurora Energy Research to record a podcast to feature in their weekly COVID-19 newsletter.

The interview was conducted by John Feddersen, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Aurora Energy Research, who also co-founded the company in 2013. Aurora is a consulting firm that provides independent data-driven analysis of European and global energy markets.

Aurora produce a weekly newsletter, which more recently has included  the impact of COVID-19  on the energy sector and  1-1 podcast interviews with key industry leaders. This is alongside the regular weekly round-up of energy market developments and updates.

This week’s interview was focused on utilities, and featured Tom Glover who spoke about RWE’s transformation, the role of Government in the energy sector and the need for Contracts for Differences (CfDs) for deployment.

When asked about the current status of the integration and if everything was in place, Tom said:

We are waiting for the final piece of the jigsaw when innogy join RWE renewables, this should happen sometime over the summer period. RWE has  a proud history as a thermal power generator– it’s our responsibility to generate, we’re just changing how we do it and have set a 2040 carbon target.

Tom also praised staff for their hard work during the current coronavirus crisis, and explained the company’s robust approach and that we have strict guidance in place. He noted that, as guidance is different in every country, we rely on a cascade approach and trust our managers to know what is best for their teams.
