RWE is exploring the potential for a wind farm to the east of the town of Abertillery, and to the west of the town of Abersychan. The site is located in both Torfaen County Borough Council and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, Wales.
The proposal is a six turbine wind farm with a maximum tip height of up to 200m. The potential electricity generated would be the equivalent to the needs of 42,000* UK homes - a number similar to the total number of households in Torfaen itself.
Since launching its proposals, RWE has worked closely with the community and undertaken extensive consultation. This included a three-week informal consultation between the 28th February and the 21st March. We’ve carried out extensive assessments and surveys at the site, held discussions with interested parties, conducted an informal public consultation and gathered a huge amount of valuable information.

*It is estimated that the average annual generation expected at the site could be equivalent to the approximate domestic needs of around 42,000 average UK households. Energy predicted to be generated by the proposal is derived using wind speeds monitored in the local area and correlating to longer term historical weather data using meteorological models seeded with data obtained from satellite, surface based and airborne measurement systems. The calculations are based on an installed capacity of 36 MW.
