Project Background

The proposed Clachaig Glen Wind Farm is located near Muasedale on the Mull of Kintyre in Argyll & Bute.

At the end of 2019, RWE received consent from the Scottish Government for the 14 turbine scheme.

Latest Update

Since receiving consent RWE has carefully been reviewing its options for the site going forward. As you will appreciate, the renewables industry, and in particular turbine technology, has evolved considerably since the application was submitted in 2016. We have therefore been reviewing the proposals to try and maximise the efficiency of the scheme, including the use of more modern and efficient turbines.

It is important to note that part of this process included reviewing the entire Kintyre peninsula in detail for potential sites that can accommodate larger turbines, and following that extensive  review RWE are of the view that the Clachaig Glen site offers one of the best opportunities within Kintyre and that of Argyll, whilst minimising and mitigating impacts within the region.

RWE has submitted a request for a Scoping Opinion for the updated Clachaig Glen proposals to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit (ECU). The Scoping Request seeks consultee feedback on the development proposals,  the environmental aspects that will be addressed in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the methodologies proposed to undertake these assessments. Importantly, Argyll and Bute Council and other consultees, including the Community Councils, will have the opportunity to provide early comment and feedback.

We are now in a position to share our updated design for the project and invite you to visit our online virtual exhibition. This will go live on the 29th January and will remain open to view for 6 weeks. There will also be an opportunity to take place in a live online chat with the developer on the 24th February between 3pm and 7pm. More details on this will be made available shortly.
