Sustainable energy for more than 40,000 homes

After four years of planning, in 2009 Highland Council gave permission for the new Camster wind farm to be built. Morrison Construction Ltd was appointed as the principle contractor and work started in 2011. The turbine layout was designed to ensure the surrounding area isn’t visually impacted whilst being capable of producing as much energy as possible. Camster is based outside any area that is protected for their ecological, geological or landscape value. In 2015, Camster generated enough electricity to power the equivalent of about 40,000 homes.*

Camster has also contributed £200,000 from its community fund to date on local projects that benefit the local community. You can find out more about the Camster fund at Foundation Scotland - Camster.

*Based on an annual average domestic household consumption of 4,115 kWH.
