RWE Generation UK embark on a new relationship with 2020 Charity of the Year, the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC)

RWE Generation UK’s Charity Committee has chosen EIC for this year’s charity of the year and made a significant donation of £9,000 in recognition of the EIC’s essential work. The Charity of the Year places a spotlight on a specific organisation which has a significant impact on people’s lives, encouraging awareness and support throughout the business for an important cause.

The EIC seeks to bring the industry together, by providing financial relief and practical support services for those working in electrical and energy related industries. These services are utilised by 1.3 million people each year, and are available to RWE’s UK colleagues who the organisation have greatly invested in over the years.

Alongside RWE Generation UK’s recognition in the “EIC Champions” section of the organisations trimonthly newsletter, in response to the donation, EIC President Stewart Gregory also displayed his immense gratitude by writing:

“I would like to add to the thanks from the Electrical Industries Charity, for the privilege and recognition of being nominated as the RWE Generation UK Charity of the Year. The Electrical Industries Charity have seen one of its major income streams, that of Social Industry Events, grind to a halt, yet the demand for the charity services has greatly increased and is expected to do so in the coming months. We certainly have one of the most challenging periods in front of us in our 100 year plus history, yet your donation is a most welcome addition to help support us in this period.“

With the EIC offering numerous forms of support for those in the industry, there are many ways that this donation can help have a positive impact. For instance, £9,000 can:

  • Provide 22 psychiatric assessments for those who are living with an undiagnosed mental health condition.
  • Provide 225 counselling sessions for the most vulnerable within our industry.
  • Help 128 people revamp their CVs after being made redundant or when returning to work.
  • Offer 120 families a weekly food shop voucher – 22% of the electrical and energy sector live week-to-week and may not know where their next pay check is coming from.

Although the EIC is RWE Generations Charity of the Year, the company will be continuing to track and share the progress of Hugo, the hearing dog that the company sponsored as part of the work with the 2019 Charity of the Year, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
