Stemster Wind Farm

LATEST NEWS: Following the results of our EIA and technical assessments, we are proposing to reduce the number of turbines to 12 and to reduce the tip height to 149.9 metres. The turbine we have removed is the most north westerly on the turbine layout plan.

RWE held a public exhibition for Stemster Wind Farm on 2 & 3 March 2020 in Latheron Village Hall.

Location and description

The proposed Stemster Wind Farm is located approximately 6 km north of Latheron in Caithness, Scotland.

The site has been selected for development because of the following attributes:

  • High wind speeds
  • Capacity to locate turbines more than 2km from a settlement
  • Capacity to locate turbines more than 750m from the nearest residential properties

Proposed development

Based on preliminary results from environmental and technical surveys that we have undertaken, the design for the wind farm is for:

  • up to 12 turbines
  • each wind turbine could be up to 149.9 metres to tip height (from the turbine base to the top of the turbine blade, when the blades are in an upright position)
